Shane's surgery

We are home from Shane's surgery. We got there right at 7:30 after dropping Brennan and Owen at Mimi's. We waited for about 10 minutes (Shane told me he was hungry) then went to pre-op. After getting his vitals done, he got the silly juice (versed) and started getting loopy. He seemed drunk. I couldn't totally understand what he was saying but he was feeling no pain!

They wheeled him back to the OR and he was fine with that. About 15 minutes later Dr Rizzi came to tell us he was done and that Shane did have fluid in both ears. When we went to meet up with him in post-op, the nurse was holding him, trying to console him. He was floppy and Ryan held him. He was crying inconsolably but not totally hysterical. His eyes were closed at first so he was able to fall to sleep for a few minutes but wake up again crying. The nurse gave him tylenol in case he was in pain but that came up a few minutes later. We walked him over to the window and then he was opening his eyes and saying he wanted to go home. The nurse was saying okay, let's get you dressed and you can go home. So we were in the car by 10! His surgery started at 9.

We got home and he vomited again. After sitting on the couch, Ryan went to get Brennan from school and I brought Shane into bed with me. He really started perking up at that point. He asked for lunch which he ate slowly. He drank some sips of apple juice and loved that because we never have that here. Then Ryan brought home McDonalds so he came down and ate some nuggets. He had cried out in pain a few times but the last time he cried it wasn't bad.  He's asleep now so we'll see how he is when he wakes!!!

Owen's not a fan!

 

Brennan wrote his name, Shane's ear surgery

Brennan wrote his name for the first time yesterday at school!!!

He had his Thanksgiving play today at school. He was so excited!

Shane's getting ear tubes next Thursday the 29th.

Owen's 15 month well

Owen had his 15 month well check today. He says two words now (vroom for car and when asked what a dog says he quietly says fuff). Dr Limmer says thats on the low side (hello Shane) so we'll follow. Had fluid in both ears today (again, Shane). No ear infectinos yet for him. He's only 21 lbs, 10 oz (32nd percentile), 2'7" (41st for length). He's little!! I weigh 6 month olds at work who are 21 lbs.

Dr Limmer checked Shane's ears today because of his ENT appt on Tuesday. He already has fluid in his right ear so I'm praying he qualifies for tubes!!!

Owen's first real haircut

Owen had his first haircut at Hair Cuttery on Sunday. He cried and squirmed at first but then settled down and was great. He looks like a real boy now!!!


Owen has a temper and knows what he wants. He doesn't want me really anymore. He'd rather be down playing and running around unless he's around someone he doesn't know.

Shane is still getting speech and has an ENT appt next week. He puts words together but they aren't sentences. He's entering the treacherous threes for sure. He still naps everyday. Follows Brennan around but also does his own thing too. Still easygoing mostly. Eats all day long along with Owen!

Brennan still loves school. He repeats things we say so we have to be real careful. He calls things 'boring' which means he doesn't like it. I said that I didn't care the other day so now he says that a lot. I had a teacher conference last week with Mrs Salazar. She said he's doing great. He's starting to recognize his letters. She doesn't think I need to work on them at home. She wants him to use scissors more. She won't know if he's ready for Kindergarten until March or April. I was kind of surprised by that because I just figured he would be. He plays with everyone and is a nice boy!!

Hurricane, Halloween, PSU

Last Monday, Hurricane Sandy hit. We lost power for 24 hours only so that was great. Ryan went back to work that Thursday, I didn't go back til Friday.

Halloween was pushed back to Friday from Wednesday. Shane ran up to every house all by himself while Brennan wanted one of us to go with him.

Went to PSU this past Saturday. Amy, Mike, Beth, Russ and Alexa came with us. Owen stayed at home with Mimi and Pop. We got a frisbee, Ryan and Brennan played with that on Old Main's lawn. We went shopping and went to Pickle's for some drinks before getting ready to go out that night. The boys love it there.
